Wasabi Powder

Eutrema japonicum, also known as wasabi, is a cruciferous brassicaceae crop which originates from Japan. Pungent and fleshy, it has been used as a food condiment in Japan for centuries. Wasabi is a member of the brassica family, grown primarily for its enlarged underground stem (rhizome). Demand for wasabi now outstrips supply — many 'wasabi' products contain faux paste made from horseradish.

Key Benefits

01

Authentic Wasabi Flavour & Aroma

Wasabi's flavour comes from its high concentration of glucosinolates, converted to isothiocyanates (ITCs) when plant tissue is damaged. Allyl isothiocyanates are responsible for its distinctive flavour. Adds authenticity to wasabi-flavoured foods and supports clear label simplification.

02

Natural Shelf Life Extension & Health Properties

Wasabi's anti-oxidant properties can extend shelf-life and improve food safety. Its ITCs have been linked with anti-microbial, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant and anti-mutagenic properties — supporting Health & Wellness positioning across digestive and respiratory applications.

03

Obesity Regulation

Wasabi leaves are high in flavonoids and polyphenols, possess potent metal chelating characteristics, and are linked to obesity regulation in tests. Suitable for weight management ingredients and supplements.
